Stack of journals, credit to the Hydroscience & Engineering department at The University of Iowa.By the end of this term you will be working on a research paper using 6-12 credible, college-level sources, including at least two peer-reviewed sources. You'll work up to this big paper, and you're going to spend a lot of time with this topic and your articles, so you want good ones! This guide will help you succeed in this process. Use the steps below to:

  1. Choose a good topic.
  2. Identify characteristics of a peer-reviewed article.
  3. Go to the right tool to find sources on your topic.
  4. Up your searching game with some useful tips and tricks.
  5. Is your article CRAP? Make sure it's a credible article.
  6. Cite sources in MLA.
