Why should I care about copyright?

As role models to and teachers of students, faculty members need to model good behavior regarding the ethical use of information. Clackamas Community College faculty members are required to abide by copyright law, whether sharing print or digital materials. As detailed in CCC Board Policy, copyright infringement "is a serious offense against federal law and contrary to the ethical standards required of staff and students alike."

What is copyright?

The US Copyright Office defines traditional copyright as "a form of protection grounded in the U.S. Constitution and granted by law for original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Copyright covers both published and unpublished works" (US Copyright Office).
