Kurzweil
Kurzweil is software that is free to use for current Clackamas Community College students. It converts text files to audio and allows you to read along with the text as it speaks. The DRC runs open labs that serve to teach students how to use software, apps, browser extensions, and other assistive technology available to them. Please contact the DRC if you have any questions at drc@clackamas.edu or 503-594-6357. You do not need to receive services from the DRC to attend open lab.

Brainscape applies the latest cognitive science research to make studying as accessible, fun, and effective as possible. With Brainscape, you can create your own flashcards, browse through flashcards others have created, or study their collection of general knowledge flashcards. Brainscape uses a repetition method that is designed to help improve users retain information.

Cold Turkey is a website blocker available for Windows and MacOS that helps you overcome distraction and get to work. Cold Turkey comes with a default distraction list, or you can create your own custom list of websites you don't want access to while you work.You can start a distraction-free session with a timer, or schedule work time in advance. Once a website is blocked you can't access it until your scheduled work-time is over. Try to access a blocked site? Cold Turkey will show you a motivational quote instead! The basic application is free, and students can request 20% off when purchasing the premium version.

Evernote's goal is to help people live more orgnaized lives. Evernote began with a mission to "remember everything" and now has over 8 billion notes created by people across the world. Evernote is a single place for your notes, ideas, lists, and reminders. You can plan, keep records, and manage projects from any device. You can also collaborate on Evernote with team members and classmates! Evernote's basic plan is free, but you have the option to pay to upgrade to other plans.

iStudiez pro is an organizational app that helps you keep track of your assignments, weekly planner, and grades. After inputting your information, you can get a quick overview of your daily schedule and tasks, log your homework and other assignments, and log your grades into the GPA calculator.

Photomath scans math problems for instant results and step-by-step explanations. This app helps you interpret math problems with comprehensive math content from arithmetic to calculus to increase your understanding of fundamental math concepts.

RealCalc is a scientific calculator app available for download on Android devices. RealCalc is designed to look and operate exactly like a handheld calculator, and has customizable display styles and formats. It supports binary, octal, and hexadecimal calculations and has an optional RPN mode.

RescueTime has an automatic time tracker that gives you an accurate view of how much time you're spending on your device every day. RescueTime is a great resource for those of us who need extra help with time management, and want to know how we are spending our time. RescueTime's basic services are free, but you have the choice to upgrade to other features by paying.

Seeing AI is an iOS app designed for the low vision community that narrates the world around you. It speaks texts aloud, helps you locate barcodes and scans them to identify products, recognizes friends and describes people, identifies currency, describes perceived colors, and reads handwritten text.

Sonocent is an audio note taker that records lectures and meetings as an audio file. While you actively listen, you can make brief annotations and highlight in real time.

TextGrabber converts printed text to speech and recognizes over 60 languages in real time. All your scanned text and translations are saved and your archive is always at hand.

Quizlet is an application that allows you to create and share flashcards and study sets. You can also use flashcards or study sets that other students have created, and collaborate on sets with your team members and classmates. There are over 330 million study sets to choose from, and Quizlet will help you learn by cycling through flashcards and showing you which you are familiar with and which you have mastered. Quizlet's basic services are free but you can pay to access the premium version.

Grammarly corrects your spelling and grammar in real time while you type! It works in Google docs, your email, and on social media. Grammarly even goes beyond spelling and grammar to give suggestions on style and tone.

Kami is an extension that allows you to annotate and markup your PDFs and other documents. Highlight, draw, insert shapes and images, annotate with text, underline, add voice annotations, and more!

Spreed helps you speed read any document or web page on the internet. By displaying the text in a unique way, you are able to read material much faster - simply highlight the text, right click, and select "Spreed selected text."
