In Person
CCC Library uses the Library of Congress Call Number system, which unfortunately makes browsing in person a little difficult. Most of the books for ENG222 are in the PZ7 area of the library, and then located by the first letter of the author's last name. If you have some ideas of books you want to read, bring those to the library and a librarian will gladly help you look.
ENG222 Online Browsing
If you would prefer to browse online, the books for ENG 222 are in the "Middle Grade Books" tab of this course guide. You can browse the titles, but will still need to come to the library to get the book (or find it at your local public library or bookstore).
The library catalog is a great place to look for books - you will easily find books we own (print and ebooks) as well as print books that you can easily order from our partner libraries.
Title Searching
If you know the book you want to read, enter the title in the search bar below. Make sure to spell correctly.
If you aren't sure what book you want to read, there are tips on this page about how to search by keywords. You can also work with a librarian - we will help you find books by theme, topic, or other criteria.
Books from other Summit libraries
A good thing about searching in the catalog is if CCC Library doesn't have the book you want or it's already checked out, the catalog will give you the option to request the book from another library for free.
Find almost everything CCC Library has to offer to you - items in CCC Library, Summit partner libraries, and most article databases. Then refine your search results to identify the best resources.
When you find a print book in the catalog, you will see a code (called a Call Number) that tells you how to find the book. It's like an address to the book's location on the shelves in the library. Here's an example using the book The Hate U Give by Thomas Angie.
Here is an image from the library catalog for that book with the call number underlined:
The call number for The Hate U Give is PZ7.1.T448 Hat 2017. To find the book, it's easiest to break this call number into smaller parts.
1. You need to first identify where the PZ section is in the library. It's alphabetical and the information is listed on the end of each bookshelf. In this case, PZ is between PS and QA, so that is the row you want to be in.
2. Once you find the PZs, you need to find PZ 7.1 - this part is numerical, so 7.1 will be after 7 and before 7.2.
3. The next section of the call number is T448. It's easiest to first look for the T, so find the place on the shelves that is PZ7.1.T. In fiction books, the letter after the decimal point is the author's last name initial.
4. This is where it gets tricky: The numbers after the T in this call number aren't in regular numerical order - they are in decimal order and each digit is looked at separately. So, first identify where the T4s are, then the T44s, then the T448s. This means that T448 is after T4472 - this is because that 3rd digit determines the location even though 4472 is a bigger number than 448.
