CCC Library supports students, faculty, staff, and community members by teaching users how to find and evaluate information, providing access to millions of print and online resources, assisting with research, and offering space to learn.
Library instruction sessions are defined as distinct periods of time spent by librarians teaching students, faculty, staff, and/or community members library, research, and information literacy-related skills and concepts within the context of a course, degree, or program outside of the library. Library instruction sessions are delivered through F2F, embedded, and/or online methods.
F2F instruction provides course-integrated instruction to students, faculty, staff, and/or community members in a synchronous, face-to-face setting.
Embedded instruction provides course-integrated instruction to students through asynchronous, personalized feedback shared via online course LMS discussion board.
Online instruction provides course-integrated or stand-alone instruction to students, faculty, staff, and/or community members through asynchronous or synchronous online means (e.g., interactive tutorials, videos, webinar, Course Guide).
Information literacy-related instructional material is both created and curated by CCC librarians. A complete list of online tutorials and educational material created by CCC Library is available at libguides.clackamas.edu/tutorials.
Additional instructional material includes CCC Library’s primary teaching tool: our website. The purpose of CCC Library’s website is threefold: to support members of the CCC community in their learning; to empower library users by providing intuitive, accessible, and free access to academic content, resources, and expertise; and, to educate library users about using CCC Library. CCC Library’s website is faculty-driven, created and maintained using LibGuides, and comprises webpages with different purposes:
CCC Library’s homepage is the syllabus for CCC Library. The homepage communicates the framework of the library and facilitates discovery of relevant discipline- and course-specific resources.
EFA Subject Guides provide relevant content and supplemental material for users within a specific EFA / discipline.
Topic Guides provide relevant library content related to the College's mission and priorities, College events, and library-related topics of interest.
Course Guides reflect the curriculum of course-integrated library instruction sessions and the instructional methods of the teaching librarian. Course guides are not to function as an alternative to Moodle course shells.
Library Services Guides establish a contract with library users by publicly providing information about procedures and guidelines for using CCC Library’s tools, services, and physical space.
How to request a Course or Subject Guide
Faculty members can request librarians create Research Guides. Research guides might be set up for a specific course, assignment, or subject/discipline. Creation of these guides is a very collaborative process - please allow at least 4 weeks for requests to be met. Learn more about Course and Subject guides.
To request a custom guide, please fill out an Instruction Request Form. Under the question “I would like a/an,” select "Research Guide."
Library instruction guidelines
Instruction sessions need to be requested at least two weeks in advance of the desired instruction date. Librarians may not be available to teach a session if less than two weeks’ notice is given.
A copy or explanation of the course assignment is required to help the librarian tailor the content of the library instruction session to student needs and learning outcomes.
No library instruction will be scheduled when CCC Library is closed; contact a librarian for alternative methods of learning about CCC Library and research.
Instructors must remain with the class at all times.
Library instruction typically takes place in CCC Library’s instruction classroom (D112). The D112 classroom is equipped with the following:
25 laptops (wifi, MS Office suite)
Instructor computer station
Librarians will reserve D112 for use during instruction sessions. If a scheduling conflict arises, librarians will work with you to arrange alternative classroom accommodations.
If you would like to reserve D112 for use outside of a library instruction session, please check with a librarian at least one week in advance of when you would like to use the classroom. D112 is not listed in 25Live, and librarian availability, library instruction, library staff use, and student use of D112 takes priority to external use.
Instruction sessions need to be requested at least two weeks in advance of the desired instruction date.
Incomplete forms may result in a delay of scheduling the instruction session.
2. Include information in the required fields on the Instruction Request Form. This information helps the librarian plan for and customize each instruction session.
3. After you submit your library instruction session request, you will immediately receive an email from Google Forms confirming you submitted a request. That email is not confirmation that your library instruction session has been scheduled.
4. Library instruction session confirmation: You can expect to hear back from the CCC librarian who will teach your instruction session within 3 business days during the academic year.
You may receive confirmation via email, phone, or in person.
