CCC Library is fine free!

Fine free logoIf it's not lost, there's no cost!

In an effort to better align our values of access and equity with our practice, CCC Library has gotten rid of late fines!! While charging late fines was originally meant to encourage library users to return books on time, fines can be a barrier to use for many. We are excited to be fine-free because this practice reduces time-management and financial stress on students and increases our entire community’s ability to use CCC Library. There are still fees if you lose library material, but if you return something a bit late – that’s just fine. ;-)

Overdue and Lost Item Notices

If you keep an item past its due date, an overdue notice will be sent to your email address.

  • First notice is sent to you one day after the due date. A 5 day grace period begins on this day for CCC library material. There is no grace period for Reserve materials and Summit materials.
  • Second notice is sent 7 days later.
  • A lost item replacement bill is sent 14 days after the second notice for regular circulating materials (21 days after original due date). If you are a CCC student, a registration hold will be placed on your record and you will be prevented from registering for classes or obtaining official transcripts until the lost fees are paid.
    • CCC Library material more than 3 weeks overdue will be declared "lost" and you will be charged up to 50% of the replacement cost, plus $15.00 fees.
    • Summit Libraries material more than 3 weeks overdue will be declared "lost" and you will be charged $75.00 plus $15.00 service charge.
  • When responding to overdue notices via email, please do not reply to the original notice email. Send all inquiries to circ@clackamas.edu, or call the circulation desk at (503) 594-3491.

CCC Faculty and Staff may accrue lost item fees for materials loaned through Interlibrary Loan and Summit.  CCC Faculty and Staff are responsible for paying these fees.

Billing

Delinquent Library accounts are submitted to the CCC Business Office, for any of the following reasons:

  • Account has item(s) marked "lost" for at least three weeks
  • Account charges exceed $25.00

Payment for library accounts that have been submitted to the CCC Business Office can be made in person at the Wacheno Welcome Center or online through the "Payment Information - Pay and Account Information" tab in my.clackamas.edu. Fees that have not yet been sent to the Business Office can be paid with cash or check at the Library Services front desk.

Lost and Damaged Items

Items considered lost will be billed to your CCC account.  The lost item charge for CCC items returned within 1 year of the billing date may be partially credited.  Processing fees may still apply.  Refunds for Summit and ILL are determined by the lending library, not the CCC Library.

Patron’s borrowing privileges will be temporarily suspended if library charges exceed $5.00. Borrowing privileges will be reinstated when those charges have been resolved.

The borrower is financially responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged library materials and/or equipment.  Regardless of whether payment has been made for an item, library items remain the property of the college.  Materials cannot be purchased from the library.  Any person who has falsely claimed to have lost materials simply to retain possession can be charged for illegally possessing state property.  If library items are damaged, especially by water, please return them immediately to Circulation so appropriate measures can be taken.

Book return

Returning Library Books

CCC Library has two book drop locations on the Oregon City campus.

  • Inside the Dye Learning Center, immediately inside the second set of doors.
  • Outside on the north side of the Dye Learning Center, next to the US mail box.
    • Use this book drop to return material after-hours.
  • You can also hand books to whoever is working at the circulation desk in the library.

Harmony students, staff, and faculty can return items to the Harmony East Front Desk or to the drop box outside of Harmony East.

Wilsonville students, staff, and faculty can mail items back to CCC Library, or come to Oregon City for a visit to return materials.

Returning Rental Textbooks

If you have a rental textbook to return and are unsure of how to proceed, please contact the bookstore: https://www.clackamas.edu/campus-life/campuses-buildings-hours/bookstores. How do you know if your book is a library book or a rental textbook? The Library is FREE! :) If you paid for the book, it's from the bookstore.
