Faculty and staff services and resources

This guide gathers together resources to assist faculty in using CCC Library's tools, research tutorials, and services.

What are Course Reserves?

Course Reserves is a collection of textbooks that students can check out from the library for a limited amount of time. Faculty and/or departments are responsible for obtaining copies of course materials and providing them to the library. For more information, see ISP 170P Textbook and Instructional Materials Adoption Procedure.

CCC Library's most frequently checked-out resources are Course Reserves material. Providing your textbook or class materials saves students money and helps students who:

  • have delays in their financial aid disbursement or other financial hardship;
  • would like to work on campus, but left the book at home;
  • can't get the book from the bookstore; or
  • are thinking about taking the class, and want to see the material to help them decide.

Students are grateful and excited when they discover that a course textbook or workbook is available.

Please note:

  • Instructors or departments need to provide all course reserves items: CCC Library does not order the textbook for you.
  • Mistakes happen! While the library attempts to reduce the number of lost Course Reserves, they can still go missing. If the course reserve for your class was checked out and never returned, the library will contact you to secure a replacement.

Full-term Textbook Loans

The Full-Term Loan Collection is a collection of textbooks available to be checked out for the entire term. This collection is made possible by collaboration between CCC Library and CCC's Associated Student Government. Textbooks available for full-term checkout are located in the Dye Learning Center and will always be due back to CCC Library by the last day of term.

This collection is a Textbook Affordability initiative designed to lower financial barriers by providing students with the opportunity to check out their course materials for an entire term, rather than a limited-duration loan like the regular course reserves collection.

Do you have any extra copies of the textbook you require or recommend for your course? If so, please consider donating them to the library to be included in this collection!

FAQ

Nothing has changed about the original Course Reserves collection. Texts in the Full-Term Loan collection are just an additional option for CCC students.

Textbooks are only added to this collection if they are currently assigned and are already in our regular Course Reserves collection. Once these requirements are met, there are two ways that books get added to this collection: CCC Library purchases copies of textbooks with funds provided by the library and ASG. CCC Library accepts textbook donations from CCC students and employees. We utilize information from the bookstore to guarantee that the textbooks we are purchasing are currently in use, and are sure to only purchase student-facing copies of textbooks. Additionally, the collection is set to be reviewed once a year to maintain currency.

All they have to do is come to the library! The folks at the circulation desk can help students locate the textbooks they need. If the Full Term Loan copy of a textbook has already been checked out, library staff will recommend the regular Course Reserves copy as an alternative.
